Mite Fun Day in Stonetown
The full roster of the Irish Green team took part in the St. Marys tournament

What would March break be without a full day of hockey events. That is exactly what St. Marys promised and boy did they follow through.

Our first game was at 9:10am against the Belmont White squad on rink number two. After a quick pre-game skate and our traditional goal mouth cheer the players lined up for the opening match.

The Irish came out hungry for the puck right off the face off and took an early lead. All of our skaters were effective at both ends of the ice and continued with the pressure to end the contest with a final score of 13-2.

Grayson P. kept his scoring streak alive by netting one and Cohen S. also lit the red bulb on two occasions taking his streak to 3 goals in 2 games.

Two Irish player were responsible for some great passing and excellent defensive play and therefore were awarded with the "Hardest Worker" awards. Congratulations to Tyler L. and Carson V. for your outstanding efforts.

Game two was against the hometown heroes St.Marys Blue. It was a nail biter that kept the fans on the edge of their seats. With some fantastic goaltending at both ends this was no doubt going to be a low scoring affair and with the score tied 1-1 late in the game you could feel the excitement building. Finally with just over 2 minutes remaining Lucan scored to take the lead when Cohen S. picked up a loose puck from a scramble in the slot and shoveled one under the St.Marys tender.

St. Marys tried with all their "Mites" to even it up in the final 2 minutes, but the Irish stood their ground and when the the buzzer sounded they were 2-0 in the tournament.

Both Sarah F. and Spencer R. were dynamite in the Lucan net and were recognized with the "Hardest Worker" honors in game 2. Awesome work!!!

After a quick pizza lunch, it was time for the skills competition. The skaters were starting to show signs of weariness however they battled through and made the fans and coaching staff very proud.

These Lucan players truly are representing great sportsmanship and were applauding both teams when the medal ceremonies were taking place.

Thank you St.Marys for hosting a great day of hockey and activities, we look forward to next year.
