Team shows great progress during the season
Lucan Mite White had a fitting end to the season with a commanding 7-1 win over Ilderton and a 6-6 tie with their cross-town practice-mates, the Mite Green team. The teams has shown great growth during the year, with some of the second year players blossoming into leaders and the younger boys and girls, some of whom could barely skate at the start of the year, making important contributions to our games.

The Ilderton game proved a fine start to a warm weekend for March, as the Mite White team piled in the goals on the Ilderton team, winning 7-1. The defensive play was also excellent, with one goal let in, and many averted, as the players are learning how to not only flood the offensive zone, but also collapse in their own end and get the puck away from the goalies and other teams pressing to score.
The final game of the year was fittingly a showcase of the future of Lucan Minor Hockey, with Team White and Team Green, who practised together all year, showing just how far they had come over the season. The speed of the game was significantly higher than earlier in the season, and the skills of some of the individual players have become exceptional. There was passing, and some good saves by goalies, some exciting breakaways and some diligent backchecking.
There are few secrets between these teams, and some friendships between the players, and that just made it all the more exciting.
Lucan Mite White jumped out to a 3-0 lead, including on two goals by Tyler F. But Mite Green roared back with five unanswered goals to take the lead. The game went back and forth, but great effort by Mite White's two Wills, Will M. and Will C. resulted in their first goals of the season. By the end of the game, it was tied, as the players flooded the ice for the final seconds.
Congratulations to both Mite White and Mite Green on fine seasons. The future of Lucan hockey looks promising.
