Lucan Tyke Gold
Lucan Tyke Gold hit the again this past weekend as we hosted Pointed Edward & Mitchell, and travelled to Ilderton.

A busy weekend began in Lucan on Saturday morning, when the Blackhawks came to town for the back half of a home & home. Our Forwards were John “The Executioner” Robson, Colin Dalton, Brycen Watson, Sofie Pearn, along with highly touted rookie Owen Grant. Our forwards ran into some stiff defense from the Blawkhawks and had to skate extra hard to gain possession and the offensive zone. On Defense was Jacob Gillard, Lachlan Gilcrest and Ethan Lambourn who all played their usual steel-curtain defensive game on the back end while also jumping in on the rush and contributing offensively.

Roman Chalmers made his triumphant return to Tyke Gold’s crease and played a game for the ages! Roman made saves from all angles and of every description, making diving poke-checks, standing tall and fearlessly facing down all shooters. This game was a defensive battle with both teams not giving an inch. Lucan was finally able to solve Point Edward’s excellent goalie at about the halfway point, thanks to a nice rush by Brycen and driving for the rebound by Colin. Team Gold held on tight to the 1-0 lead as the minutes ticked away, showing the ability to play a shutdown game as well. When the final buzzer sounded the arena went wild as Roman posted his first shutout of the season and sealed the victory for his team!

For her hustle, head-ups play and helping the defense, Sofie was awarded the Positional Player of the Game! For his dazzling saves, positive attitude and ever-present smile, Roman awarded the Hockey Hall of Fame Ambassador of the Game! Super job Sofie & Roman, keep up the great work!

Team Gold was back at it on Sunday for the first of two games on the day, when we travelled to Ilderton to battle the Blue Jets.

Due to March break the Gold team was a little understaffed, but the boys and girls relished the opportunity to triple shift and play some different positions throughout the game. As luck would have it we had an extra-long game, so this was certainly a tough test of Lucan’s endurance. On Forward was Colin Dalton, Sofie Pearn, Emma “Get’r Done” Genttner and John Robson. All our forwards were hustling hard, battling in our end and driving hard to the net in Ilderton’s end. On Defense, Brycen Watson, Ethan Lambourn and Jacob Gillard were put the test and played great, cutting off Jet attackers and helping the forwards gain the offensive zone. Roman Chalmers strapped on the pads again and faced a lot of rubber, including a penalty shot, but as always Roman thrived under pressure and played great. This game had a decidedly more offensive tone, as the teams traded end-to-end rushes, chances and goals. Lucan’s offence really came to life, with all players hitting the score sheet. Brycen led the way, scoring an amazing total of four goals, rewarding him for his hustle, head-ups play and good shot. Jacob also recorded a goal with his booming point shot. Lucan tied the game 7-7 in the dying minutes, however the Jets were able to sneak one more in and hold on for the win.

For her hustle on left wing, work in the corners and sharing the puck with her teammates, Sofie was awarded the Hockey Hall of Fame Ambassador of the Game! Great job Sofie, keep up the terrific work!

Just a few hours later, Team Gold was back in Lucan to host the Meteors from Mitchell.

This game marked our first tilt against Mitchell so the boys and girls were eager for good showing. We again had some extra time to play so we had a four period game, which despite their tired legs and short bench, fired up Team Gold. We also played without the three-minute buzzer, so the players had to be on their toes to change on the fly and shuffle positions as required. On Forward reporting for duty once again at Center Ice was Colin “The Flower” Dalton (his favorite Montreal Canadians player), Sofie Pearn, Emma Genttner, Owen Grant and John Robson. This group played hard and smart and gave the Mitchell defenders fits all game.

Our Defense for this game were Brycen Watson, Bryce “Knuckles” Robichaud and Roman Chalmers. The boys were fending off Meteors from all angles, and despite fatigue setting in, played great and jumped into the rush to help our forwards. Jacob Gillard was back in the crease again for Team Gold and gave the Mitchell snipers little to shoot at, snaring shots from all angles and smothering rebounds. The Meteors jumped on the tired Lucan squad early, but Team Gold fought back from the early deficit and took the play to the visitors. In the end Mitchell pulled away as Team Gold was running on fumes. A great effort all weekend by the Lucan team!

For her hustle on right wing, battling along the boards and always friendly attitude, all while battling back from a nasty sickness, Emma was awarded the Hockey Hall of Fame Ambassador of the Game! Great job Emma, keep up the great work!

A special thanks to Spencer Robson, Junior Trainer & Equipment Manager extraodinaire, for all his help this weekend and all season. Spencer doesn’t need to be asked to help the players & coaches with their waters, sweaters, tape, running doors, and generally running well oiled machine. You’re the best Spencer!

Team Gold’s next game action is this Tuesday, March 15th, when we invade Seaforth for a Tournament. Go Gold Go!
