Lucan Tyke Gold - Last Weekend of the Season
Lucan Tyke Gold took to the ice for our final two games of the season this past weekend with a home & home versus South Huron Black.

Game one got underway in Exeter Saturday morning. The boys and girls were excited for our last road game and keen to finish on a high note.

The two teams proved to be evenly matched, as strong goaltending and team defence from both sides held the game scoreless for the first half. Our forwards for this game were John “Cowboy” Robson, Sofie Pearn, Lachlan Gilcrest, Emma Genttner and Roman Chalmers. All our forwards were digging hard and chasing the puck like blood hounds after a fox! On Defense were the Big 3, namely Brycen Watson, Ethan Lambourn and Jacob Gillard. Our defense played their usual strong game, breaking up the Saber rushes and clearing the puck out of our end with much enthusiasm!

In net for Team Gold, for his last game in the crease, was Colin Dalton. Colin played with his usual determined game, covering the angles and frustrating the Saber snipers. The game remained scoreless until Brycen broke through the Exeter defenses for one of his portended rushes and gave Lucan the lead. Exeter was able to tie the game in the late stages and it looked like this one would end in a draw. However, on the last shift of the game, after some diligent fore-checking by Team Gold, the puck squirted to Sofie in front who made no mistake and buried the game winner! Great game for both teams!

For his hustle on defense, hard work and positive attitude, Ethan was awarded the Hockey Hall of Fame Ambassador of the Game! Super job Ethan, keep up the great work!

Back in Lucan on Sunday morning, the two teams locked horns again for the final game of the season. Team Gold was still on an emotional high from the big win the previous day as well as the Fire & Ice game festivities the night prior.

Lucan iced nearly the same lineup, with the exception of Lachlan taking over in net and Colin playing forward. Team Gold started the game with great pace and took the play to Exeter. Their hard work was rewarded as we jumped out to an early lead. The Forwards were hustling and making plays, and our Defense were grinding it out along the walls and protecting our net. Despite the long layoff since last playing net, Lachlan played great and protected the lead for his team. The scoring was highlighted by Emma’s great positioning in the slot, hammering home a rebound & lighting the lamp, which brought the crowd to its feet with cheers! Sofie and Brycen also notched two goals each to cap off a terrific year. In the end Team Gold skated to the win with big cheers and big smiles all around!

For their hard work on Defense, for their hustle on Forward, and for Lachlan’s great game in net, the entire Team was awarded the Player of the Game! Great job everyone on Team Gold!

After the game, each player was awarded a Hockey Canada Certificate and a shiny Tyke medal, recognizing the dedication and the great season each player had.

Additionally, Kohen Wickens and Brycen were each awarded a medal for the two Most Dedicated Players on the team. Kohen and Brycen could always be counted on to give their best efforts each and every practice and game. It was very difficult for the coaching staff to choose only two, because every player was very dedicated.

Lachlan and Sofie were each awarded a medal for the Most Improved Players on the team. This was also a very tough choice, because all the Gold players improved a great deal in all areas. Lachlan and Sofie really came along way with their hockey sense and skills, and their confidence on the ice has grown with it. It’s been great to see!

Roman and John were each awarded a medal for the Most Sportsmanlike Players on the team. Again it was nearly impossible to pick only two recipients, because all the Gold players were always very sportsmanlike, they never had to be reminded. Roman and John are especially friendly and kind and were always great teammates and humble opponents. Congratulations to all the players and Team Gold for a terrific season!

A big thank you to all the Parents, Grandparents, Siblings and Fans for all their help, support and dedication throughout the year! We’ve had a very fun and enjoyable season and the kids were a joy to coach. It’s bittersweet for the ride to be over for this year, but we look forward to another great season next year. Go Lucan Go!
