Strong effort in St. George
The Lucan Novice LM team put forth a great effort this past weekend at the Earl Gaukel Memorial tournament in St. George.

The Novice LM began their first tournament of the year with a tilt against Paris.  This game was a defensive battle showcasing the defensive talent of the Lucan squad.  Owen scored our lone goal by tipping in a beautiful pass from Billy, while Jackson also earned an assist by starting the play deep in the Irish end.  The Novice Irish showed terrific teamwork all game, and had all players competing for the puck, skating hard and back checking.  Dexter and Brodie were high flying wingers and worked hard along the boards, keeping the puck out of our end all game.  Between the pipes was Lachlan, who was very strong and kept the game tied at a 1-1 draw.

After a check in at the hotel, the boys were ready for their second game of the day against West London.  The match was a battle with both teams trading scoring chances from start to finish.  Ryder opened the scoring for the Irish by lifting a shot over the goalies glove to get us on the board.   Brendan followed with a goal of his own, assisted by Jacob, and Connor rounded out the Irish scoring by netting a power play goal early in the 3rd period.     Once again, Lachlan was stellar in goal stopping shot after shot and preserving the 3-3 tie.

A team dinner at East Side Mario's was a hit with the young and old alike, and the kids sure enjoyed the pool after a hard fought day at the rink.  After a terrific breakfast at the hotel, the kids prepared for their game against a strong Beverly team.  The Irish got off to a great start with fantastic team play and non-stop checking.  Grayson and Grant held the blue line strong, while Keaton and Graeme’s defensive play made things very tough on the Beverly team.   Beverly had a couple of strong offensive players and managed to take the lead, but there was no quit in our Novice boys and they fought hard until the end. Unfortunately, the score was not in our favour, and the Lucan Irish lost out to the eventual tournament Champions from Beverly.

The Novice boys should be extremely proud of their effort, as the team had a terrific tournament.  Lots of fun was had, all of the players worked hard and we can't wait until the next tournament.  Good Luck against East Lambton on Saturday boys!
