The Atom Girls Rep team came home Champions last weekend. They brought home medals, a banner and new hockey sticks!!

The girls were undefeated during the tournament, with 4 wins and 2 ties. The first game was a challenging game against Twin Center. The Girls were up 3-2 late in the 3rd period when Twin Center tied it up with only 18 seconds left in the 3rd. Mackenzie Heywood got us on the board first with some nice passing from Gracie Barfett and Mikayla Liddell. Gracie Barfett then netted the next 2 goals. Their next match up was against a solid Ottawa Thunder Team. They were down 2-0 early in the first period but rallied back for a 4-3 win. Mackenzie Heywood had a hat trick with assists from Gracie Barfett and Mikayla Liddell. Mikayla Liddell battled in front of the net for her first goal of the tournament off a shot from the point from Gracie Papple. The girls then faced off against the Kitchener Lady Rangers. Megan Foster shut them out and the girls sailed to a 4-0 victory. Nicole Beattie, Megan Henderson and Natalie Chalmers all dug hard in the corners. Megan Henderson blew a hard shot by their goalie in the 3rd period. Mackenzie Heywood, Mikayla Liddell and Gracie Barfett got the other 3 goals with assists from Sarah Foster, Mackenzie and Mikayla. Taryn Irwin had a great game on defence. Their 4th game of the weekend was against a very tough Goulbourn Rockets team. The girls were starting to fatigue during the game and were down 2-1 late in the 3rd period. We were able to pull our goalie and tie it up with 52 second left in the game. Our rock solid defenceman and goalie; Keira Pocock, Sarah Foster, Taryn Irwin, Gracie Papple and Megan Foster kept us in the game.

Semi-Finals were early Sunday morning but the girls were eager and ready to battle the Twin Center Hericanes. Megan H, Nicole Beattie and Natalie Chalmers had some great plays in front of the net but just weren't able to put one by their goalie. Then Mackenzie and Gracie Barfett were able to score goals in the 2nd period for a 2-0 win. The goals were generated by assists from Gracie B, Keira Pocock and Mackenzie.

This brought us to the final game against Ottawa Valley. It was a tight back and forth game and a tiring one for our defence who were playing with just 3 defencemen as Taryn was out with the flu. They dug deep for a 2-0 win. Mackenzie put us on the board with a break away goal in the 3rd period. The game was sealed once Mikayla found the back of the net off a pass from Gracie B.  Megan Foster earned her 3rd shut out of the tournament and Mackenzie Heywood earned tournament MVP.

Congrats Girls on a fantastic fun filled Tournament.
