Lucan Minor Hockey Families,
The
LMH Executive has continued to meet during this lockdown period to review
various plans and potential options for the balance of the hockey season, and we
were eagerly anticipating a return to the ice once the stay at home order was
lifted. Unfortunately, with Friday’s
announcement that the Middlesex London Health Unit will return under the
Red-Control level as of February 16, coupled with the unexpected recent failure
of the ice plant at the Lucan Arena (which would prevent us from returning to
the ice until March), the decision has
been made to cancel the remainder of the season, effective immediately.
We understand that this may not be welcome news by all but we do believe with the season scheduled to end only 4 weeks after we can restart due to these ice issues, along with the restrictions that come with the Red response level and the ongoing concern regarding the continued spread of the virus, we feel this is the most prudent decision.
Refund Information
Refunds of 60% of registration fees, as well as the full gate fee and full tryout fee (if paid with registration) will be issued by cheque within the next 4-6 weeks and will be mailed to the address on file at time of registration. If you have moved since the season began, please notify Barb at [email protected] with your updated mailing address. As we are a dual signature organization, refunds can not be processed through e-transfer. With the volume of refunds required, and the time it takes to complete, we appreciate your patience as we work through the processing of these refunds. If you have not received your refund by the end of March, please let us know.
Volunteer Bonds
As we all know, we cannot run our Association without the help of volunteers, and we want to thank everyone who stepped forward to volunteer your time with LMH this season. Even with the shortened season, a good number of our families were able to satisfy the bond requirements. We also acknowledge that some families were not able to complete their volunteer hours, and LMH has decided that we will not cash any bond cheques this year due to fact that fewer bond opportunities were available during this unique season. Bond cheques on file will be destroyed and shredded.
Registration for the 2021/22 Season:
We plan to have registration for the 2021/22 season open on our website in the early part of May. We will add a note to our website, our social media accounts, and will send an email advising of when registration opens.
Please be aware that the Ontario Hockey Federation has recently announced that there will be no tryouts at any level this spring – boys or girls, so we will not be issuing Permission to Skate forms to anyone until prior to tryouts in the fall.
Annual General Meeting (AGM):
It’s our hope that we can hold our AGM in person this spring (late April); however, that will obviously depend on the COVID response level and restrictions on group sizes at that time. If we can’t hold an in person AGM, then we’ll do it virtually; however, either way we will provide more information well in advance of the meeting.
Executive Positions
This is a reminder that all Executive positions with Lucan Minor Hockey are open for nominations every year at the AGM. Entering next season, we know that there will be some current members that will not be returning, and we encourage you to give thought and consideration to joining so that we continue to gather new ideas and further the development of our hockey programming. The support of volunteers is critical to the success of our hockey program, and that includes members being willing to join and assist with our Executive board. If you would like any information on any of the positions, please reach out to [email protected] and we will be happy to answer your questions and/or provide additional information.
Finally, LMH would like to extend a sincere appreciation to all of our players, parents, coaches and volunteers this season. It has been a challenging year for all of us, but it was great to see everyone making the best of a difficult situation. We feel fortunate that even under ever-changing protocols, we were able to get the boys and girls on the ice and allow them to play this great game of hockey, get some much needed physical and mental exercise, develop their hockey skills, connect with their friends and teammates, and have some laughs along the way. We are looking forward to next season with optimism that it will be a more traditional hockey season.
Thank you and stay safe!!
