U5

U5 operates as one large group to teach the hockey fundamentals.  There is one practice per week which has been typically scheduled early morning on the weekend utilizing half of the ice, or potentially full ice based on the number of players registered.  Near the end of the season some players may participate in scrimmages as there no official games or tournaments.  The season starts mid-September and runs through to near the end of March.  Some weekends there may not be ice due to local tournaments or holidays.  There are no gate fees associated with U5.

It is highly recommended that U5 Hockey Players also enroll with Skate Canada and participate in a CanSkate program to enhance the players skating development at this early age.   For more information, click here:  www.lucanskatingclub.com/

U7

U7 is a hockey player's first introduction to team play.  The season starts in mid-September and runs through to March with 2 ice times per week.  The first part of the season is devoted to skills development (i.e. Practices) with internal games being introduced in December and potential scrimmages with other centres starting in January or February.  Ice is shared with U7 teams and other young age groups and has historically been Friday evenings and early morning on the weekend.  Most teams opt to participate in 1 or 2 local one-day jamborees.
