Pink on the Rink Finalists
What a fantastic weekend for the Atom girls! The girls put their game faces on and were determined to win this past weekend. They put every ounce of energy they had into each and every game they played.

The weekend started bright and early Friday morning with a game against Stratford. All the girls came out strong and they came away with a 1-0 win.  Ashley netted the lone goal for us. Chelsea was solid in net as she earned her first shut out of the tournament. Lucy Petrie had a great game. She was skating hard the whole game and was our back checking specialist. Our next game was against Lucknow. Lucknow had the lead after the first period, but the girls came back strong in the second and third periods. Again Ashley beat their goaltender not once but twice. Kaija and Natalie had the assists with some nice break out passing. Our defenceman, Sarah was a force to be reckoned with. She had 4 breakaways and was shut down by the goalie until she put in her own rebound to end the game with a 3-1 victory. In our third game, we faced the home town of South Huron, who were also unbeaten in round robin play. Cadence, Grace and Melanie were battling hard in the corners. Chelsea had another great game. She was diving everywhere but South Huron came away with a 2-0 win in the end.

The girls ended up in fourth place overall with a record of 2 wins and 1 loss during round robin play. This meant we had to play Mitchell in an elimination game to see who would go onto the semi-finals. The lone goal of the game went to Erin who was going hard to the net from a pass from Ashley Beattie. Natalie and Alexa were chipping it out of our end as the pressure from Mitchell was tough. The girls won the game 1-0 and moved onto the Semi-Finals.

The semi –final match up was with our arch rival South Huron Sabres. The girl’s determination and heart to win this game showed during every single shift. Our goaltender Chelsea was again making save after save. Neither team could break the other teams defence. The game was tied 0-0 at the end of regulation time and therefore went to sudden death overtime. With the game still tied 0-0 after overtime, it came down to a shoot-out. After two skaters from both teams were unsuccessful at scoring, the game took a twist when Chelsea shut out the Exeter player and Melanie was able to put the puck between the South Huron goalie’s five hole to win the game. We had just knocked the home team favorites out of the tournament.

The final game was against the Petrolia Oilers. Our defence, Gracie, Keira, Emma, Sarah and Paisley did a great job of getting their sticks on the puck and keeping Petrolia to the outside but Petrolia was able to capitalize on a few chances and they won the tournament with a 2-0 win.

Congratulations Atom Girls!
