21st Annual Lincoln Tournament Champs!!!

Last week your Atom LM team travelled to Lincoln for their 21st Annual Tournament.  What an incredible 2 days it was!  Some highlights are as follows:

Team spirit was high!  Players’ siblings “blinged” a green bowler hat for the coach.  Loot bags of Irish gear were handed out to each player on the team, and player families brought their own, too (apparently dollar stores have lots of that this time of year) …And we brought the “Luck o’ the Irish” flag!

Our goalie duo recorded multiple shutouts, from brilliant right pad saves (we have photos!) to breakaway stops in the finals.  Our aggressive D pairings had multiple goals and assists and pushed the puck into the opposing teams’ end.  Our forwards were relentless towards the opponent’s goalies.  It was incredible!  Heading into the final we had 22 goals for and only 1 against.  Awesome!

As a team, we all have fantastic memories from those two days. From our top scorer getting the puck for his 100th goal of the season, to the incredible power play passing display of game 2, to the team dinners and festivities to follow, etc.  MY favourite though, was in the final game.  It was our third game in 6 hours.  We were tied 4 – 4 after the second period. I looked down the bench, and coaches were tired.  And when I looked at the boys, they were exhausted.  So we discussed that we only had 10 minutes between us and the championship.  If we dig deep, what can we find?  Well, the fellas found another gear.  They absolutely dominated a very strong Grimsby team.  We were down a man due to an unfortunate penalty for 4 minutes of that period, but that was not going to be an obstacle.  We made adjustments and scored 3 unanswered goals, and we came away with a 7 – 4 victory.  It was a proud moment for the bench staff, one I will remember for a very long time.  It was an Irish day; it was OUR day; it was St. Patrick’s Day.
