Round 3 vs. Woolwich, Road to Best of the Best
Our Lucan U13B Girls Team took on the Woolwich Wild in Round 3 of the Division Playoffs this past weekend!
Game one Friday night in Lucan saw a huge crowd of Fans in attendance to cheer on the home squad! Woolwich took the early lead, but our Girls stayed strong, battled together and slowly but surely turned the tables and took the play to the Wild. Lucan had numerous glorious chances to even the score but Woolwich's Goalie was stopping every shot in sight. Lucan continued to push, hitting a couple crossbars as time ticked away in the third. Finally in the dying minutes, their determination & p
erseverance paid off as a perfectly placed shot from the point found the top corner to tie the game! The Teams continued to battle tooth & nail right to the final buzzer, finishing with a 1-1 draw.
Game two was back in St. Jacobs on Sunday afternoon. Lucan and Woolwich locked horns once again, trading chances early on but both Goalies stood tall & refused to let anything past. But as our Girls usually do, they got stronger as the game went and continued to launch relentless offensive attacks at the Wild net! It looked like this one was headed for a tie once again, until the final minute, with the series hanging the balance, Lucan's Big Shooters line broke loose and blasted a rocket to the top corner to secure the 1-0 win! A wildly exciting finish for the ages!
The deciding Game three was back in Lucan Monday night, with the stands jammed with excited fans from both sides! Our Lucan Girls came out with maximum determination and focus, taking the play to the Wild right from puck drop! Lucan's offense struck early with another unstoppable bullet goal just inside the post! Shortly after our Girls scored again while swarming the Woolwich net, hitting the crossbar but burying the rebound for a 2-0 lead as the crowd went crazy! Lucan's outstanding Goaltender, tremendous Defense, and relentless Forwards did not let up an inch for the remainder of the game, smothering the Wild and skating away with the 2-0 win and series victory!
Congratulations to Woolwich on a terrific series and outstanding display of Girls Hockey!
Our series wins versus Bluewater, Chatham, and Woolwich earns our Lucan Girls Team a spot in the Best of the Best Champions Day game in Toronto this Saturday versus the Otanabee Wolverines! It has been these Girls goal all year long to make it to this game, and with a tremendous amount hard work, practice, dedication and teamwork, they made it! One more game left to decide who stands alone at the top of the mountain.
Congratulations to the Lucan U18 Girls who, with last night's exciting win, earned their spot in their Final Game in Toronto as well!
