St. Thomas Big Cat Tournament
Our Lucan U13 Girls Team took to the ice in the annual St. Thomas Big Cat Tournament on September 15.
We kicked things off Friday with games versus Cambridge and West Northumberland. Our Girls came out flying at both ends of the ice and skated away with two wins.
Saturday's action seen us take on a strong Woodstock Team. The game was tight throughout however Woodstock took the lead late to secure the win. But on the strength of our two wins Friday, our Girls earned a spot in Super Sunday's semifinal, a return matchup versus Cambridge.
Our Girls were more than ready, attacking in the offensive end and defending well in our end, taking the win and earning a birth in the Final versus our highway 4 rivals, South Huron.
The Final game was played at a terrific pace, both Teams trading chances and storming up & down the ice. South Huron drew first blood early in the second. But Lucan dug in and was able to tie the game late in the second, setting the stage for an exciting final period. Our Lucan Girls poured on the pressure and were finally rewarded taking the lead midway through the period. South Huron battled hard to tie the game as time ticked away, including several power plays and a nail-bitting 6on3 Player advantage in the dying minutes! Lucan's penalty killers and Goalie rose to the occasion, battling furiously and held on to the final buzzer to take the Gold!
Congratulations to South Huron on a great final as well as all the other participating Teams.
