Lucan Tyke Gold was in action again over the holiday break participating in the John Henry Memorial Tournament in Strathroy.

This was Tyke Gold’s first tournament of the year and the boys and girls were excited to get underway. Our first game was Sunday morning and Team Gold put up a hard fight against a good Ilderton Red squad. Roman Chalmers made his triumphant return from Christmas vacation and tore it up at center ice, along with his trusty wingers Sofie Pearn and Emma Genttner, buzzing all over the ice. Our line centered by Brycen Watson, with John Robson and Colin Dalton on the wings, were impossible for the opposition to contain all weekend, skating hard and chasing down loose pucks like a swarm of angry hornets. Tyke Gold’s defense corps of Jacob Gillard, Ethan Lambourn, Lachlan Gilcrest and Bryce Robichaud played their usual rock-solid game all weekend, and held the fort against the waves of attacking forwards.

Kohen Wickens strapped on the pads for our first game and played amazing, challenging the shooters, making many terrific saves, and charging out of the net to clear loose pucks when his defense needed some help. For his efforts, Kohen was awarded the Tournament player of the game! Great work Kohen, keep it up!

Game 2 was later on Sunday afternoon versus the Strathroy Reds. Lachlan Gilcrest tended goal for the Gold team and did a great job! So well in fact that he was tackled by all his teammates in the goal at the final buzzer, congratulating him on his great effort. The boys and girls played hard as always, but came up short against the strong hometown team. Our defensive corps were down to just 3 and fatigue inevitably set in, but they played valiantly and gave their all. For his efforts anchoring the defense, Jacob Gillard was awarded the Tournament player of the game! Great work Jacob, keep up the good work!

Team Gold had a day off to regroup before our final game early on Tuesday morning, when we did battle for the first time this season with the Ingersol Selects. Our gang saved their best effort for last, skating with urgency, battling hard and playing together as a team. John Robson was awarded the Tournament player of the game for his hard work, determination and positive attitude! Great work Johnny!! keep up the good work!

Special recognition is given to the players for their positional play, and the boys and girls have all done well in that area. They are eager to learn and continue to improve each time out.

Tyke Gold is in action again on Saturday, January 9th at home to Mt. Brydges, and Sunday, January 10th when we host the Point Edward Black Hawks. Happy New Year to everyone and Go Gold Go in 2016!
