Lucan
Tyke Gold was back on the ice this past Tuesday as we invaded Seaforth for their
annual March break Tyke tournament.
The games for this tourney were fast and furious, being only 40 minutes in duration, no warm ups and floods only every 3rd game. There was also no buzzer in play so the kids had to be on their toes all day to change on whistles and on the fly.
Team Gold got things underway in the morning versus BCH. This marked our first game of the season versus Ice Dogs. Our Defense for this game was Lachlan Gilcrist, Bryce Robichaud, Brycen Watson and Ethan Lambourn. In Goal patrolling the blue paint was Jacob “The Big Show” Gillard. On Forward was Emma Genttner, John Robson, Colin Dalton, Lucas “The Big Show Jr.” Gillard, Sofie Pearn, and Mite call-up Owen Grant. This game was a tight defensive battle with shots and scoring chances hard to come by for both teams. Lucan’s Defense played great, turning back the waves of BCH attackers and clearing our zone effectivly. Jacob stood tall in net, making many nice saves and holding his team in the game. The forwards were charging hard to the net trying to give their team the advantage. Team Gold were hungry for the puck all over the ice and their hard work finally paid off as Owen buried a nice goal to give Lucan the lead. Team Gold kept up the tight defense and it looked like one goal might be enough, until BCH struck late in the game for two quick goals to take the lead. Lucan fought hard in an attempt to tie the score in the dying minutes. With the goalie pulled for the extra attacker, a final desperate shot slid just wide of the BCH net, as the Dogs hung for the win. For his hustle playing center, determination and commitment to helping out our defense, John Robson was named the Player of the Game! Great work John!
After a brief break Team Gold was back at it, this time taking on our division rivals, the Ilderton Jets Blue. Lucan iced nearly the same line up for this match, with the exception of Colin taking over in net, Jacob & Emma on Defense, and Bryce lining up at forward. In the early going everything seemed to go the Jets way helping them jump out to an early lead, from which Team Gold was not able to recover. For his hustle on Defense and creating some great rushes and offensive pressure, Jacob was awarded the Player of the Game, great job Jacob!
Our final game versus Blyth was later in the afternoon and Team Gold was determined to rebound for this contest. The renewed focus and determination paid off as Lucan came out hard, carrying the play and working together as a team. The Gold guys hard skating was rewarded as they jumped out to an early lead they would never relinquish. The offense was highlighted by Bryce’s amazing five-goal effort, helped by his good positioning and nifty passes from his line mates. For his hard work, smart play and positive attitude, Bryce was awarded the Player of the Game! Great job Bryce!
Many thanks to the Gold Parents for taking time off work & making arrangements to allow the kids to play through the week. And thanks to the Seaforth Tyke team and tournament volunteers for hosting us, as well as the lunch, medals and sunglasses we received. Team Gold had a great time!
The Lucan Tyke’s next action will mark our last weekend of the season, as we play a home & home with Exeter Tyke Black. Go Gold Go!
