Lucan Tyke Gold took to the ice on Sunday,
January 10th as we hosted the Blackhawks from Point Edward.
This game marked our first meeting of the season against the ‘Hawks and Team Gold was determined to build on the positives from our previous game. They were able to do that and more, as things really started to click for Team Gold! We earned the most offensive zone time of any game thus far this season, much to the enjoyment and excitement of the team. And improvements are being seen all over the ice.
Our forward lines of Kohen Wickens centering Roman Chalmers & Sofie Pearn, along with Brycen Watson centering John Robson & Bryce Robichaud, were each working hard in all three zones and fiercely backchecking to help our defense. Our D’men were again short one player, but the three headed monster unit of Jacob Gillard, Lachlan Gilcrest & Ethan Lambourn battled tooth & nail to reduce the shots against and protect our net. Our defense also did a great job of head-manning the puck and holding the offensive blue line, along with blasting a few shots on their net from the point!
Goals had previously been hard to come by for the Gold team, but that was not the case on this day as Bryce Robichaud got us on the board early, with a beautiful redirection off a perfect bullet pass from Brycen Watson in the corner. These two along with John Robson caused havoc in the offensive zone all game. Colin Dalton was between the pipes and played terrific once more, denying several point-blank chances from the ‘Hawks snipers to hold his team in the game. Kohen Wickens was a force all day, skating hard & chasing down ‘Hawk players to deny breakaway opportunities as well as creating numerous great scoring chances for his line. The hard work paid off as Kohen scored two goals in a row to tie the game for the Gold guys. With time winding down and Team Gold down by a goal, Roman Chalmers created a turnover and sent a nifty pass to Sofie Pearn in the slot, who buried her first goal of the season to tie the game! Final score, Point Edward 4, Lucan 4.
Our Positional Player and Thinker of the Game Award went to left winger Sofie Pearn, for her solid positional and heads-up play. Great job Sofie! For his great outlet passes and terrific job holding the offensive blueline, Lachlan Gilcrest was awarded the SuperSport Player of the Game! Great work Lachlan! Keep up the terrific work! Special thanks to the Blackhawks team who left early and made the trek all the way from Point Edward in less than ideal driving conditions, for the love of the game.
Team Gold’s next action is Sunday, January 17th at home for an early 8:30am start. Go Gold Go!
